
Wells was born in New York on January 29, 1943 and grew up in the countryside of New Jersey where she spent much of her time outside. Her father was a playwright and her mother was a dancer in the Russian Ballet. Her parents surrounded her with books growing up and she took to drawing when she was only two years old. Today, her two daughters, Victoria and Marguerite are the inspiration for her work, especially her stories about sibling rabbits, Max and Ruby.

The letters accidentally end up with his Grandma and she misunderstands his intentions and sends him letters back with pictures of what she thinks he wants instead. Each letter can be “opened” in this “lift-the-flap” board book.
