Find Books with Dewey?

Ever wonder how we decide where books go in the library?

Our library uses the Dewey Decimal system to organize our books and make them easier for you to find.

Fiction books or stories are listed alphabetically by the author's last name. Nonfiction books (true stories and facts) are given a number depending on what the book is about. Books about the same things are found near one another. For instance, all animal books are put on the shelf together.

All of our books, movies and other materials are listed in our online catalog You can search our catalog by the title of the item you need, the author, or by keyword.

If you need a book on horses, type horses in the search box and you will see all of the books, movies, and other materials the library has on horses. The call number is sort of like the address of the book and tells you exactly where you can find it.

When you return a book, the Dewey Decimal number tells the librarian where to put the book on the shelf so someone else can find it!
